CASE STUDIES
Heat exchanger and refrigeration system
PDP Ltd was asked to analyse an underperforming chiller system for a chemical absorbent. It was quickly identified that the heat exchanger configeration could be improved and that the refrigeration system was undersized. The re-design has fully met expectations and this allowed an increase in throughput for the whole site during the summer months.
Start-up cooling system
PDP Ltd designed a quench cooling system for a start-up gas line. Despite initial misgivings about the design by the spray nozzle vendor, the system was commissioned and performed as designed.
Chemical plant relief study
A pressure relief valve revalidation study was carried out at a specialist chemical manufacturers site. Relief case calculations were provided for a large number of valves on a variety of equipment including a storage vessel, distillation columns, heat exchangers and positive displacement pumps. The heat exchanger calculations included tube rupture cases with two phase flow through the tube break. All calculations were provided to the client and explained to the site engineer responsible for accepting them. Based on peformance during the relief study, PDP Ltd was engaged to support a project which re-configured a distillation train while integrating a new column, technical input was provided for the design /specification of the column and all ancilliary equipment.
